Chelsea seek stability after rocky period
Chelsea sit 6th in the Premier League table, having collected 48 points from 32 games. New manager Liam Rosenior has an uphill task to steady the ship after taking charge in January 2026, following a run of four defeats from five and three successive losses.
The Blues employ a high-tempo, high-pressure style of play, which often sees them break quickly and play vertically - unlike Brighton, who favour structured possession, Chelsea have a bit more bite in the final third. However, their frailties at the back have been exposed by the Premier League’s bigger beasts, and a trip to the AmEx is unlikely to be an easy task for Rosenior and his players.
Seagulls soar under Hurzeler
9th place in the Premier League, after collecting 46 points from 32 matches, represents a solid campaign for the Seagulls, who’ve won seven of their 16 home league matches (D6, L3). Fabian Hurzeler’s flexible, possession-based style, in which Brighton morphs between different shapes and dictates the tempo, has served the team well in recent weeks.
Brighton beat Liverpool 2-1 at home and Burnley 2-0 away in their last two Premier League outings, and have won their last three league games against Chelsea, including a 3-1 win in the away fixture six months ago.
Expect an open game
This game has ‘chess match’ written all over it, as Hurzeler’s team are likely to try to force Chelsea to press and counter in transition. If they play as they have done in their recent good run, the Seagulls will play patient football, picking their moments to break through the opposition and strike.
Chelsea will play in a high-tempo, attacking style, and have the firepower to hurt Brighton if given chances. A goal fest could ensue between two teams with attacking flair but defensive vulnerabilities. Back Brighton to win at 79/50, Over 2.5 goals at 73/100, and Both Teams to Score - Yes at 53/100.
