- Cambridge United have won two and drawn two of their last five League Two fixtures.
- Swindon Town have won two and drawn one of their last three away fixtures in League Two.
- Cambridge United have won 13, drawn five and lost just one of their home games in League Two.
An intriguing contest awaits as two promotion chasing sides meet
Cambridge United have been involved in a few more close games than many of their rivals in the promotion battle in recent weeks and the bet on the game could go either way when Neil Harris’ team come up against Swindon Town in the latest round of League Two games on Thursday.
The home side are fourth in the table with 72 points from 39 games so far, with Swindon Town occupying fifth spot on 70 from 40. The visitors have been more consistent on the road in recent months, winning two and drawing one of their last three, but Cambridge have won both of their most recent home games.
Harris, who took over as United boss in February 2025, has moulded a disciplined, patient unit that likes to build play up from the middle of the park. The Cambridgeshire club have the strongest home record in League Two with 13 wins, five draws and one defeat, and their average of 1.79 goals scored and 0.63 conceded at home underpin their position as favourites for this game.
Widows have enough attacking quality to pose hosts a problem
The hosts play a 4-2-3-1 system and try to control the tempo of the game by possessing the ball, but Swindon’s more direct style should ensure this is an open, end-to-end contest. Ian Holloway took charge of the Robins in October 2024 and has given the team an extra pragmatic edge when needed, but they will try to overload the flanks and get the ball into the box on Thursday.
Aaron Drinan is the focal point of their attack and, with 19 goals in 34 League Two outings, will be their main danger man. Cambridge have a proven goalscorer of their own in Ben Knight, who has 8 goals in 29 appearances, and Louis Appere has also found form in his last five games, scoring two.
Swindon Town have conceded 1.20 goals per game on the road in League Two and the Robins are a touch vulnerable at the back, but with both teams averaging over a goal per game, we’re taking Over 2.5 goals and BTTS - Yes at a slight favourite. Cambridge’s home form and superior attacking quality should see them take the spoils, however, and the odds of 13/20 on a home win look fair enough.
