Clash of styles at Balaidos
Claudio Giráldez has done a brilliant job at Celta de Vigo since taking over as head coach in March 2024. The Galicians are 6th in LaLiga and pushing for European qualification with 50 points from 35 matches, after a solid run of two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five.
Celta’s last two home matches have been a win and a defeat, with a 1-1 away draw at Athletic Bilbao interspersed. The hosts are compact, well-organised and hard to play against when in their shape. Their build-up play is patient and wide and once they have opponents pressing, Celta will look to release their attackers to run at the space that can open up.
Borja Iglesias is Celta’s talisman with 14 LaLiga goals in 32 appearances, but they have plenty of other attacking weapons with Iago Aspas, the evergreen talisman that orchestrates their attacks, a constant threat. Sevilla have a similar danger man in Akor Adams, who has nine LaLiga goals from 29 appearances this season, and Lucas Ocampos’ directness and flair can open up a game quickly.
Sevilla’s away form has been mixed
Sevilla FC’s form has improved under Luis Garcia since he took over in March 2026, but his side has yet to find the consistency that the club needs to achieve stability in the late stages of this season.
Sevilla has won four, drawn three and lost ten of 17 LaLiga away games, conceding 32 goals. They have won three of their last five, losing two, beating Espanyol 2-1 at home, winning 3-2 at Villarreal and then losing 0-1 at home to Real Madrid.
In the two games before that, Sevilla had only one win and one defeat. There is little consistency with a pressing game that should suit the club’s personnel and abilities, but can leave gaps when it doesn’t work.
Celta have the momentum and the momentum
Celta’s superior league position, head-to-head record and superior attacking firepower at home suggests they should get all three points for this game. Sevilla’s form has been better recently, but they are 13th in the table with 40 points from 35 games, still looking for respectability.
In the last five head-to-head meetings between the clubs in LaLiga, Celta has won three, Sevilla one and there was a draw. Celta won 0-1 away from home in the most recent encounter four months ago.
Celta de Vigo averages 1.53 goals scored and 1.47 goals conceded per home game in LaLiga this term, suggesting we will see lots of action at Balaidos on Saturday. Take a home win at 9/10, Over 2.5 goals at 1/1 and Both Teams to Score - Yes at 79/100.
