The bookies make Deportivo Toluca FC the clear favourites at 69/100 for Wednesday's Liga MX 2026-2027 encounter with Pumas UNAM at Estadio Nemesio Diez, Mexico, while Pumas are huge long shots at 351/100, suggesting this one has 'win at home' written all over it.
There may be some truth to that, but the visitors have been solid across all competitions this season, posting five wins, three draws and only two defeats from 10 outings, so perhaps a straight home win is not the way to play this.
Instead, we're taking an alternative angle that fits the script, but there is no doubt that Toluca should have the quality to edge this out at home, even if Pumas do make it tough.

Toluca's vertical combinations should be able to stretch Pumas' compact block, but the Mexican giants will make this tricky if they can get through the initial press.
However, the visitors could struggle to match Toluca's energy over the course of the match, particularly at the back as the hosts push forward and their fullbacks get forward.

Their recent results have included a 4-0 home win over Los Angeles FC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup 2026, a 2-0 away loss to Pachuca CF in Liga MX 2025/2026 and a 0-0 draw with Club Tigres de la UANL before a 6-5 shootout win in the aforementioned tournament.
Pumas, on the other hand, beat Pachuca CF 1-0 at home last time out, before losing 2-1 to Cruz Azul at home.
And so, we expect this to be a cagey affair but with Toluca's higher tempo and pressing style, they should be the team to edge it.
Jordan Carrillo has been a spark for Pumas of late, netting three goals in their last five games, but we're siding with the home side on the overs as Pumas have scored eight goals in their last five themselves.
