- Eastleigh failed to win either of the last 2 home H2H meetings, so Gateshead can smell an opportunity.
- Eastleigh's home form across all competitions is inferior (W1, D1, L4 from six) and they concede 2.33 goals per-match on average.
- Gateshead have conceded six goals away from home across all competitions (W1, D1, L2 from four).
Eastleigh v Gateshead at Silverlake Stadium
Eastleigh are slight favourites in the bookies ahead of Saturday's National League 2026-2027 at 117/100, however, the 44/25 available on the visitors looks too big and there is nothing to separate the two sides.
The hosts have split the two meetings, winning 3-1 away from home in National League 2025/2026, which gives them a fresh psychological advantage. But with no draws in the head-to-head record, Gates will also take encouragement from the fact that they are not coming into this clash with the psychological 'yips'.
Matt Gray's men should get on the front foot from the off and play fast, positive football with an aggressive press and vertical transitions. Aaron Blair will be their main threat in the box, as the danger man comes into this one having scored two of Eastleigh's five goals across the last five matches.
A tale of two teams with patchy form
Overall, Eastleigh have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five, which doesn't look like a bad record, but that's just the beginning of the story. The 1-1 draw at home with Tamworth was followed by a 0-1 win away at Scunthorpe, and then a 1-3 defeat to Southampton in a friendly.
Across all competitions, Eastleigh have won twice, drawn twice and lost six times in the last ten, which is a poor record that is only likely to improve if Gray can steady the ship.
Gateshead aren't much better, with a record of two, one and two across the last five, but the 0-3 home loss to Woking really was a body blow, while the 3-1 loss at Altrincham wasn't the greatest and a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle in a friendly doesn't do much to inspire confidence.
The verdict
Lee Cattermole's men are looking like a solid 4-3-3 unit with the structure, work rate and measured press that allows a team to compete at this level, but we think that Eastleigh's attacking intent and home advantage should be enough to edge this one.
A competitive Eastleigh win, or a score draw, is the likeliest outcome, while over 2.5 goals at 11/20 and both teams to score (BTTS) Yes at 47/100 is an obvious play, although the value lies in the 'No' selection at 147/100.
The 131/50 draw keeps this game in live upset territory, as opposed to a 'banker' and we're willing to give the hosts the edge, albeit by a very small margin.
