AFC Hornchurch come into their first National League season off the back of a dream 2025-26 season when Daryl McMahon's side won their National League South play-off semi-final 2-0 before edging Torquay United 3-2 AET in the final.
Hornchurch's 0-0 pre-season draw with Dagenham & Redbridge seems to show they've carried their momentum over the summer, while Harriers arrive in equally good shape after their own promotion success.
Paul Wotton's side stormed into the National League. Harriers won their promotion play-off 2-0 against South Shields last May, but their form has stayed strong into the pre-season build-up for the new boss.
Midfield and structure should be the difference
A 3-2 win for Hornchurch in the play-off final suggests this will be an open game, but we feel the clash of styles and structures between the two sides should make this a tactical tussle on the flanks and in transition.
Daryl McMahon sets Hornchurch up with a structure, discipline and set-piece edge that has seen them rise through the non-league ladder in recent seasons. Usually operating from a back-three with two wing-backs, Hornchurch press high and look to snap into gear when they get turnovers or when they are in transition.
Wotton's Kidderminster are more flexible, often shifting between 3-5-2 and 4-3-3. But they are always organised and aggressive in midfield.
