- Grimsby Town have won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five matches (1-3 home L to Blackpool, 1-0 home W against Exeter City, 0-0 away D at Walsall)
- Fleetwood Town are unbeaten in their last five with two wins and three draws (1-0 away W at Chesterfield, 0-0 home D with Gillingham)
- Grimsby won the last home H2H 1-0 in League Two 2025/2026 and have won three of the last four meetings between the two sides
Town are a bit more together than Cod Army
Grimsby Town will be the home side for this match and are favoured at 21/25, with Fleetwood at 16/5 and the draw at 5/2. Town have been marginally more impressive in the opening weeks of the season and have that little bit more of a platform from which to push on from. David Artell has done a superb job at Grimsby Town since taking over as head coach in November 2023 and this side are a very clear blueprint of his personality - structured, pattern-based, possession-first football that can look like a back four at times, but just as often a 3-5-2. Grimsby sit ninth in League Two 2026/2027 with four points from two games while Fleetwood are just above them in eighth on the same number, so there is already nothing to split these two sides at the top end of the table.
Cagey contest could go either way
The Cod Army have been equally as resolute on the road in League Two 2026/2027, winning their only away game and conceding 0 goals so far. Matt Lawlor's high-energy, high-pressing game has certainly sharpened Fleetwood since he took over as Fleetwood Town's head coach in January 2026, but this clash looks like one of control versus chaos.
Harvey Rodgers has been the main goal threat for Grimsby with one goal in two league games and has scored two of their five goals in the last five, so he looks a decent shout to score anytime this weekend. Charles Vernam has provided a bit of spark with one assist in two League Two 2026/2027 appearances so Grimsby look to have that bit of end-product.
Ched Evans has looked Fleetwood's sharpest finisher so far with one league goal in two games and two of their three goals in the last five so he appeals most in the anytime goalscorer market.
Grimsby have a little bit of history on their side
Grimsby should probably edge it at home but the odds don't reflect how even this game could be with both sides in solid form at the start of the new season. The main selection will be Under 2.5 goals at 4/5 as both teams are priced up as though it will be a low-scoring affair.
Grimsby have won to nil in their home game in League Two 2026/2027 so will feel as though they can control the game enough to force mistakes from Fleetwood, but the visitors have failed to win their last two away games against Grimsby Town and that may give the hosts the belief that they can nick this one.
