- Huddersfield Town are unbeaten in 4 home League One 2026/2027 matches (W2, D2).
- Wigan Athletic are still seeking their first away win in League One 2026/2027 (D1, L3).
- Joe Taylor has scored 5 goals in 7 League One 2026/2027 games, while Wigan's top scorer Jensen Weir has found the net just twice in the same number of appearances.
Terriers are on the up
Huddersfield Town are the team in better form going into this League One 2026-2027 clash at the John Smith's Stadium as the Terriers are unbeaten in four with two wins and two draws. Martin Drury's men have taken some time to bed in under his leadership since his appointment as head coach on 1 July 2026, but their last three games have been impressive.
Town are fourth in the table on 16 points from 9 games, while Wigan are 24th on 4 from 8. The Terriers come into this match off the back of a 1-3 victory at Burton Albion, a 5-0 EFL Trophy victory over Rochdale and a 2-2 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Drury has got his Terriers to move as a compact unit, press in numbers, create width from the full-backs and control the tempo of the game much better. Joe Taylor is the main cutting edge for the hosts as he has registered five goals in seven league games, more than double that of any other Huddersfield player.
Latics look long on the road
Gary Caldwell's Wigan have won just once in their last five games (W1, D1, L3) and their only victory during that run was a 3-2 win over Blackpool in the EFL Trophy. The Latics have suffered a 1-2 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers and 1-3 away defeat to Stevenage Borough with the 3-2 win over Blackpool in between.
Caldwell has his players set up in a team-first, transitional style that looks good on paper, but doesn't always work on the pitch as they try to pack a compact shape, counter-press and look to work the ball from the back. Their best players aren't up front and it shows as in Weir they have a striker that has just two goals from seven games.
Wigan can be a tough nut to crack and there is every chance they can nick a result at the end of this match, especially given they won the last head-to-head 1-0 at home in League One 2025/2026. Wigan have also taken two of the last three meetings, but Huddersfield are a different beast under Drury and we believe we are on the right side of this fixture.
Huddersfield are the likelier winners
There is no doubt that the Latics are an organised team who can make things tough for any opponent, but Huddersfield are playing much better football at the moment and should have the confidence to take this game to Wigan from the off.
Town are 51/100 favourites with the draw at 31/10 and Wigan out at 217/50, which is a mismatch in odds that doesn't quite reflect the reality on the ground in our opinion.
A Huddersfield win to nil does fit the numbers as Wigan have conceded five goals in their four away games in League One 2026/2027 so far, an average of 1.25 per game. Town have conceded four in four home league games this season and should have no trouble controlling the game at John Smith's as they are much more likely to pin Wigan back than vice versa.
If the hosts can get Taylor into the same space as the Wigan strikers, they should score a few goals. A Huddersfield 2-0 victory is our preferred correct score prediction for Saturday's clash.
