Egnatia can get a foothold in first-half
NK Celje are the narrow 7/5 favourites to win the UEFA Champions League Qualification 2026 first leg against KF Egnatia at Stadiumi Egnatia Rrogogzhine on Wednesday, but the Albanian hosts are little more than a head to toe behind at 8/5. The draw comes in at 12/5, which seems about right for what should be a close game between two sides looking to impose their identity in the match.
Nevil Dede has been quick to stamp an identity on Egnatia since his appointment on 4 May 2026. The hosts' attacking wing-backs and two up top in a 3-5-2 formation have allowed them to be a threat in transition and have seen them score a total of 10 goals in their last 5 at home.
The visitors are more of a possession-based outfit under Vitor Campelos, who has brought structure and balance to Celje's performances since his own appointment on 13 March 2026. His 4-man backline and flexible 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 shape should give the Slovenians more control of the match in the midfield and allow them to sustain periods of possession and control.
Celje have the away form to keep things close
KF Egnatia's all-competition form over the past few months has been a little patchy, but they have been competitive in all games, winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 5 of their last 10. Similarly, Celje have been red-hot with an 8-2 win-loss record during the same period, although the last five has seen a little more of a swing.
Celje's last three results have been back-to-back home losses to NK Bravo and FC Koper, followed by a 4-0 away win at Primorje Ajdovscina. Egnatia's last two results have been a 1-1 draw away to CS Petrocub and a 6-1 home win over the same opponent.
This is a classic style of play battle and we're taking the draw and a one-goal swing in either direction to edge this one for the visitors at a shade of favourites. Celje's unbeaten away record and Egnatia's home punch should make this a close contest, but we have an inkling that Vitor Campelos' team can get the better of this one with a narrow 2-1 victory. Alessandro
Albanese, with one goal in one game, is Egnatia's current leading scorer and the team's biggest threat in the UEFA Champions League Qualification 2026.
