Familiar foes prepare for 2026-2027 National League South battle
With National League South 2026-2027 underway, these two teams will start the campaign level on points and with plenty of motivation to start well regardless of the result.
Craig Fagan is taking over at Maidstone Utd and he will be hoping to maintain the structure that had the Stags solid and competitive throughout the 2025/26 season, but add a little more flair to the side in terms of a more open and attacking style from midfield to front three.
Farnborough's pre-season performances have been mixed to solid, but they have had a full programme to get the squad ready for the season with the Ted Pearce Memorial Cup and various friendlies. They are a side who like to get on the front foot, keeping it compact and getting up and at teams.
Spencer Day's men will set up a team to play an aggressive, front-foot style of football, with the wing-backs driving the tempo and wide runners coming inside to support in wide attacks. They'll be looking to hurt the opposition on the counter attack with Rakish Bingham, who is a proven goalscorer in this division and a handful on his day.
Mason Bloomfield and Hakeem Sandah are two other players who add a punch to the attack and have plenty of experience, they should make a difference for Farnborough as the game opens up and the ball flies forward.
Maidstone's summer signing Riley Court is an interesting one to look out for, he has been talked up in club coverage as someone who can make the difference for the Stags in midfield, he's a player who can set the tempo and will be a threat from set pieces.
Jephte Tanga, Sam Corne and Hamzad Kargbo have also been regulars in the Maidstone attack and they should all be a handful for Farnborough on Saturday.
Maidstone should make the most of home advantage
Maidstone are a good side and they showed it in their pre-season, beating Ramsgate and Brentwood and there has been plenty of club coverage about the summer build-up. They finished the 2025/26 campaign in the upper mid-table, in the play-off mix right through the run-in so they look the most likely winners at 53/100, with Farnborough 41/10 and the draw 31/10. However, the pressure of an opening-day game could play a factor and Farnborough are a dangerous side, so we'll go with over 2.5 goals at 31/50 and both teams to score at 67/100 here.
