- Manchester City are 11/50 favourites to win, so the draw is the value bet at 27/5
- Both Teams to Score is a tempting 21/20.
- Galatasaray have won two and drawn two in their last four games in all competitions, including a 1-1 away draw with Atlético Madrid in the Champions League and a 3-1 win at Fatih Karagümrük in the Süper Lig.
City and Galatasaray could be a cracking watch
Manchester City will face Galatasaray in a competitive fixture for the first time ever on Wednesday and the emotional subplots could be almost as intriguing as the tactical intrigue.
Pep Guardiola’s side are among the favourites to top both the Premier League and the league phase of the UEFA Champions League 2025-2026, but their form has been mixed over the past month.
The Citizens have played five, won three and lost two across all competitions, bouncing back from a 1-3 Champions League defeat to Bodø/Glimt with a 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday. Their Champions League campaign also hit a snag when they were beaten 1-3 by Bodø/Glimt.
A City win would be enough to secure automatic qualification for the Last-16 while a point would see Galatasaray into the play-offs in this new-look Champions League format. Galatasaray have been in strong form, winning two and drawing two of their last four, including a gutsy 1-1 draw at Atlético Madrid and a 3-1 win over Fatih Karagümrük.
Gündogan and Sané return to Etihad
Okan Buruk has certainly turned Galatasaray into one of the most pragmatic and high-pressing sides in Europe during his time at the club, dominating domestically and being a dangerous counter-punching side in Europe. Ex-City stars İlkay Gündoğan and Leroy Sané now hold down the midfield and attack for Galatasaray, bringing great experience and extra narrative for this return to the Etihad.
Tijjani Reijnders and Gabriel Sara are excellent options for the two deeper midfield roles, able to keep the ball moving and create chances in transition, but the talisman is Victor Osimhen.
Erling Haaland is City’s main goal threat, but his influence has waned a little over the last month with Guardiola rotating his squad heavily and the Norwegian lacking sharpness. The addition of Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush in January has given Guardiola a couple of fresh legs to play off the striker and both have hit the ground running with crucial goals.
City have changed their style
Guardiola’s tactics are changing too, with the Spanish strategist finding a way to blend his characteristic possession-based approach with more vertical, direct football that is less vulnerable to turnovers when the fixture congestion is getting to his squad. City have the quality and guile to dominate the pace and tempo of the game but, when they do get the ball forward, they look to play on the transition.
Galatasaray will push forward with their own high-risk, high-pressing game, hoping to force City into errors and then punish them with the pace of Osimhen and the wide runners. We are expecting a quick pace to this game, with cool and dry conditions in Manchester set to suit both sides and the Etihad crowd ensuring a highly-charged atmosphere on Wednesday.
City should have the edge in this important fixture, but Galatasaray are no easy beats and can make it close, although with Rodri suspended and Guardiola rotating his side this season, the selection interest is elsewhere. We will take City to win in a game in which both teams will get their chances.
