- Motherwell have conceded just six goals in 15 home Premiership 2025/2026 games.
- Hibs have scored 21 goals in 15 away Premiership 2025/2026 matches.
- Hibs have won two, drawn two and lost just one of their last five Premiership games.
Both teams will test each other in their different ways
Motherwell and Hibernian FC will test each other differently as Motherwell try to retain the ball and Hibernian FC try to press and penetrate when these two clubs meet at Fir Park on Saturday.
Motherwell have won ten, drawn four and lost one of their 15 home Premiership 2025/2026 matches this season, so there’s every chance the Well can get the job done. Jens Berthel Askou’s men have just enough quality to suggest that they can win this type of game, which will be a good deal closer than most people think.
It is a contest between two clubs, sitting fourth and fifth respectively in the Premiership 2025/2026, with 53 and 47 points from 30 games, and they may well be going head-to-head for European places at the end of the season.
Wells are a well organised team
Askou’s side have a ball-dominant, build from the back and progressive style of play that creates midfield overloads and allows the team to play the ball out of the back when under pressure. They can be tough to play against, which Hibernian FC will realise at some point on Saturday, and they are disciplined enough in their pressing to keep the game organised.
Hibs, by contrast, play with a back three and wing-backs, focusing on being compact and hard to break through when out of possession and then playing direct and high-tempo football when in possession. David Gray’s men have been much harder to beat on their travels of late and use their intense pressing and ability to transition quickly to cause problems for any team in the top flight.
Hibs’ away record is solid, but not good enough
However, their away record of five wins, five draws and five defeats from 15 matches suggests they may fall just short when up against a well-organised and defensively solid Motherwell side. The Well have won one and drawn one of their two most recent head-to-head meetings and the last clash at Easter Road finished 1-1.
Motherwell snapped a losing streak with a 2-0 win at home to Dundee United FC, but then lost consecutive away games to Dundee FC and Celtic FC. Hibernian FC have drawn two in a row, a 3-3 thriller at Dundee FC and a 0-0 draw with Livingston.
Mumford’s machine has the quality to edge it
In Tawanda Maswanhise, who has scored 16 goals in 27 Premiership 2025/2026 appearances this term, Motherwell have a dangerous number nine that Hibs will have to deal with, although Kieron Bowie, who has nine in 22, is their most likely source of a goal on the other end.
Elijah Just has added three to Motherwell’s recent cause with goals in his last five appearances while Callum Slattery has been a creative force with four assists over the same five games.
Motherwell’s home record is so strong that a win for the hosts at 21/25 seems like the value punt here, especially given the defensive record of the side, while ‘Both Teams to Score - No’ can be taken at 21/20.
