Newport County FC have had a torrid time of things in League Two this season, occupying 22nd spot in the table with 34 points from 42 games, just one more than bottom side Harrogate Town.
Christian Fuchs has put some more control and structure into the side since taking over in November 2025, and their recent games have seen more progressive build-up play with short passing and patient possession designed to break opposition defensive lines.
However, Newport County FC have been much less convincing at Rodney Parade, where they have won only four of their 21 home matches, conceding an average of 1.62 goals per game.
The Exiles have won just one of their last five games, a 1-0 home success over Shrewsbury Town followed by consecutive defeats to Crawley Town and Notts County, but there are signs that Fuchs’s influence is beginning to rub off on the players.
Harrison Biggins, who has scored two of their last three goals, is one of the most potent threats, with Michael Spellman top scorer with five League Two goals in 32 appearances this term.
Jack Muldoon plays a similar role for Harrogate Town, who have won two and lost three of their last five and are just as desperate for the points at the bottom of the table as Newport County FC.
Simon Weaver, in charge of the Sulphurites since 2009, has a similar reputation to Fuchs in that he will tweak his system to stop games getting away from his side, but is a structure-first coach who prefers compactness, transitions and set-piece efficiency.
He has done some good work with Harrogate Town on the road, where they have won two of their last three, including a 3-1 victory at Grimsby Town.
Newport County FC will be the more likely winner on Saturday but Harrogate Town are capable of making this a very close game, so we’ll take the Exiles to edge a high-scoring affair with both teams on the scoresheet.
