Harrogate Town - Colchester United League Two clash
Rock-bottom Harrogate Town’s miserable 2025-2026 campaign has seen them take just 33 points from 43 games so far, while 13th-placed Colchester United have accrued a much more respectable 60 points from 42 matches.
Simon Weaver’s side have won just three of their 21 home games in League Two, losing on 15 occasions, while Colchester United have shown plenty of resolve on the road with seven wins and six draws from 21 away trips this season.
Weaver has had to make do with what he’s got at Harrogate Town since taking charge back in 2009, but his side have a real sense of identity with a front-foot pressing style and high-tempo approach that aims to stifle the opposition before hitting them on the counter-attack.
Danny Cowley’s Colchester United, whose manager has been in charge since January 2024, are a more methodical team by comparison and prefer to build from the back with a possession-based approach, controlling the pace of the game through the thirds and probing for a breakthrough through the middle third.
The clash between these two styles of play will be fascinating on Saturday and whoever adapts best to the other’s gameplan will likely win, although Colchester’s recent form suggests they may just have the edge.
Colchester United’s consistency will tell
Colchester United have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five matches with a 1-0 win at Tranmere Rovers and a 3-0 home victory over Swindon Town representing their two most recent results.
That run of results, which has kept the Us well clear of the dropzone, was in stark contrast to Harrogate Town’s last two which have seen them lose 2-3 at home to Bristol Rovers and 2-1 away to Newport County.
With Colchester United not having managed a win in their last two away visits to Harrogate Town, we’re taking the visitors to win the close encounter on Saturday. Prices of 97/100 for an away victory look generous, although under 2.5 goals at 3/4 is also an option for this likely cagey affair.
Goals at a premium at Wetherby Road
The oddsmakers have priced both teams not to get on the scoresheet at 17/20 and, while those odds are fair enough considering the situation both clubs find themselves in, we’re going against the grain and backing at least one of these sides to keep a clean sheet.
Colchester United are a more defensively sound outfit and are likely to keep Harrogate Town quiet on Saturday, although the visitors have only averaged 1.10 goals per game away from home in League Two, so don’t expect a goal fest.
Jack Payne is Colchester United’s most prolific League Two marksman this season with 12 in 35 appearances, while Jack Evans has scored two of Harrogate Town’s last six with Jack Muldoon leading the way with five in 30 for the hosts.
Harry Anderson has chipped in with two of Colchester’s last six, however, and his strike partner could be the difference-maker if the hosts do get some joy in the final third.
