Premier League 2 leaders are on a mission
Arsenal U21 will be aiming to continue their quest for a Premier League 2 title when they visit Norwich City U21 on Friday, but they may have to deal with a few changes from a Canaries side with a different agenda.
In their own way, Norwich City have been successful at U21 level in 2025-2026, having seen players graduate to the first team while also establishing a culture of youth development at Carrow Road. Boss Alan Neilson’s U21 team are not tied to any one shape or role, with players getting experience at different positions in different systems, creating a flexible team that can build patiently or transition quickly when the young players’ natural energy is unleashed.
The result of this focus on development has been mixed form, with the Canaries having taken one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five matches, and one win, one draw and one defeat from their last three at home. A 1-1 draw with Southampton at home, a 4-1 away defeat to Tottenham and a 4-2 home win over Stoke City make up their recent results.
Gunners have more tactical cohesion
Mehmet Ali, on the other hand, is tasked with instilling a more cohesive tactical identity in the Gunners’ young players, with his positional play style mirroring that of the first-team. The visitors have been very good on the road in Premier League 2, losing just two of their seven games in 2025-2026 and conceding an average of 1.86 per game.
Their form in Premier League 2 has been patchy, with a 0-0 draw with Everton, a 1-0 win over Newcastle and a 1-0 defeat to Ipswich their most recent results. Demiane Agustien has been their main goal threat, netting three of Arsenal’s last five in the PL2.
Arsenal should have the edge
The difference in quality of Arsenal U21’s team and the contrast between the visitors’ high-press game and the hosts’ developmental approach should see Arsenal U21 edge this one, especially in midfield where the structure and pressing intensity they instil in their young team should allow them to dictate play, while Norwich City U21 are more likely to be exposed in transition.
Arsenal U21 are the clear favourites for the win at 17/25, but with a big price of 67/25 on Norwich City U21, we’re staying away from the match result market and taking the ‘Over 2.5 goals’ option, which looks very heavily in the favour of both teams.
