Red-hot Baggies ready to play their part
Sitting in 24th in the 2025-2026 Premier League 2 table after 18 games, West Bromwich U21 are only one point better off than Norwich City U21, who are stuck in 25th with 17 points from 18 games.
The Baggies are certainly in better form going into this clash however, with Richard Beale’s side winning four of their last five and their last four on the bounce. They have scored 11 goals across their last three matches, blasting Birmingham Academy 4-0 at home and then taking apart Ipswich Academy 3-0 away from home.
Beale’s methods have been in place since his appointment in October 2022 and are beginning to take hold as his players press aggressively in their high-intensity, high-tempo style. They are a straight-to-the-point, transition-based unit, who like to get the ball into wide areas to exploit the pace of their forwards.
Canaries are patient in their possession play
This will make for an intriguing tactical clash with Norwich City U21, who are just as true to their identity as the senior team in terms of their style of play.
While the Canaries would like to dominate possession, they are a more patient side who prefer to build up through their lines in a coordinated manner before counter-pressing as a unit when the ball is turned over. They also like to overload the wide areas or the top of the box to create chances, and generally line-up in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation.
Both sides can make their mark
It’s no surprise that Norwich have failed to find any consistency this season given the differing styles of the game but, after an unbeaten run of three at home (W1, D2), it’s hard to see West Brom taking anything but a draw from this fixture.
The bookies have the visitors as slight favourites at 32/25, but we feel 31/25 is a better bet on Norwich to continue their unbeaten home run against a team only just above them in the table. The momentum is certainly with the visitors, however, and their in-form attackers can certainly make this a competitive match.
Over 2.5 goals is a heavy favourite at 9/25, so there is a good chance we could see a few goals on Friday evening, although the both teams to score bet is also very much backed.
