- Shamrock Rovers have four wins in their last five, including a 1-2 away win at Sligo Rovers and a 5-1 home win against Floriana.
- Cork City have four wins in their last five, but the 3-4 home loss to Longford Town is a worry.
- Shamrock Rovers are unbeaten in five home games across all current competitions (W4, D1).
Rovers are a well-drilled unit
Shamrock Rovers are the clear favourites here at 17/50 and Cork City are the outsiders at 289/50 with the draw set at 15/4. Rovers' odds are very short, but the visitors are a good away side and it is tough to see this one going any way other than a home victory, so I'm taking Shamrock Rovers -1 for a bit of value.
Stephen Bradley has been shaping the Dublin club since November 2016 and the structure of his side is very evident. The wing-backs provide the width, the roaming number 10s and number 8s are the creators and there is a strong emphasis on patience and possession in order to suffocate their opponents for long periods. They are a compact side who are very tough to get at.
Cork are dangerous in transition
Across all competitions, Shamrock Rovers have won seven, drawn one and lost two of their last ten games, a very good run of form built upon consistency rather than brilliance.
Ruairi Keating has scored five of Cork's 12 goals in their last five games, so he is the main goal threat here. Cork City operate in a 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-1-2 shape and will look to hit Rovers on the counter in this one with their wide men offering some punch.
Gerard Nash took over in May 2025 and his side are much more assured in transition, with a more aggressive press than previous incarnations of Cork City.
Cork can cause a stir
Across all their current competitions, Shamrock Rovers have scored 2.20 goals per home game and conceded just 0.60 and this should be a tight, but lively game as Rovers control the tempo and Cork look to force turnovers and hit the second ball.
Head to head adds some weight to a Rovers win as they beat them 2-0 at home in the FAI Cup 2025. Cork have failed to win any of their last three trips to Shamrock Rovers.
Across all their current competitions, Cork City have won five away games and kept five consecutive clean sheets on their travels, so they are a formidable outfit on the road and may just cause a few problems here.
Cork have nine wins and just one defeat in their last 10 across all their competitions, so they are in great form at the moment and will not give up on the game if they go a goal down, so I am happy to take a Rovers -1 for a tight win.
