Lazio look to lock down the Grifone
SS Lazio should lock down Genoa, who have won just one of their four away games this season, when the two clubs meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday. The Biancocelesti have won six of their last ten in all competitions to Genoa's three, and are in much better form than the Grifone, who have won just two of their five outings.
Gennaro Gattuso has added a more direct and energetic approach to Lazio since taking over on 23 June 2026 while Daniele De Rossi has his Genoa team pressing with structure and tempo since his appointment on 6 November 2025. The clash of styles should make for an intriguing match in Rome, but it's unlikely to be a classic with the hosts more comfortable to avoid defeat.
Gattuso's side are more compact and play a transition-first game, which is based around winning aggressive duels and releasing the ball in the vertical direction. They are potent in counter-attacking scenarios and, with Mattia Zaccagni their sharpest finisher, the hosts will have a real edge in the final third with the forward having scored five of their eight goals across the last five games.
Genoa can get a foothold in the game
Genoa will try to disrupt Lazio's rhythm and make a game of this by winning the ball higher up the field and breaking with numbers down the flanks and in the half-spaces. Lorenzo Colombo is their most prolific scorer right now with three of their seven goals in the last five coming from his right boot.
Genoa have only won one, drawn one and lost two of their four away games this term in all competitions and have managed only two goals. They won't be able to outscore Lazio here, even if they can stay in the contest for longer than the odds suggest, but should get enough of a foothold to keep this interesting for large spells. Genoa can't win this, but they can keep it close.
