Five Stripes have come up short
Charlotte are the better value for the win in the early odds about Saturday's MLS 2026 contest with Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but a draw could be on the cards, too. The Crown have come through a tough sequence of games in much better shape than the Five Stripes, so we will be siding with the visitors in what should be a very close game.
Atlanta come into the match on the back of a two-game winning streak, but their record in all competitions over their previous ten is two wins, two draws and six defeats. Charlotte's record in the same sample is much superior, as the North Carolina side have won six, drawn two and lost two of their previous ten.
The Five Stripes are 2.22 favourites here with Charlotte 2.82 and the draw 3.8, which still makes this look like a 50/50 game in spite of the recent form of the two sides. Jack Collison's men can be dangerous when they get it right and their passing style can be difficult to play against. They build up the game through possession, with lots of quick exchanges and midfield rotation, but they don't have the sort of goal threat that Charlotte boast.
Biel can be the difference
Dean Smith's men are playing with plenty of tactical flexibility at the moment, mixing a disciplined, mid-block approach with overlapping full-backs and fast vertical transitions. They also have Pep Biel, a player who can finish off chances, to come through on the counter-attack.
The Crown's Spanish marksman has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances so far, which makes him the likely scorer to make the difference on the day. Charlotte's away record this season is one win, one draw and one defeat in all competitions and they have shipped five goals, so there is some risk in their travel.
But Atlanta have also conceded three in two games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, so we'll take Over 2.5 goals at 1.5 and Both Teams To Score - Yes at 1.42 to cover an open game. BTTS is still the better bet as the visitors can sit back and counterattack for large periods and Atlanta have a more reliable scorer than Charlotte, so it looks like a 2-1 home win in the correct score market.
