The Sounders have won just once, drawn once and lost thrice in their last five, losing 2-0 at home to Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps before they were beaten by the same score at home by Austin FC after a 1-1 draw at FC Cincinnati.
Fire will give it a good go
Chicago Fire are the form team coming into this match with seven wins, one draw and two defeats in their last ten across all competitions. Gregg Berhalter's men beat Portland Timbers 2-1 at home, won by the same scoreline at Orlando City SC and then gained a solid 0-0 draw away to the New York Red Bulls during the same run.
Berhalter's tactics are different from what Sounders boss Schmetzer does, so it should be interesting to see how this pans out. The American coach prefers to control the game, playing out from the back and building up through structured overloads, whereas Schmetzer is more of a direct, high-tempo coach that can flip his side into quick, direct transitions in an instant.
Sides could be close but game should be open
Chicago are averaging 1.60 goals per game scored and 1.80 conceded away from home in all current competitions, which tells us that this could be a really open game. The Men in Red have been dangerous enough to score two goals away at Orlando and none at New York Red Bulls, which tells you that Puso Dithejane is providing some good support to firepower in the frontline as the South African has three of their ten goals in the last five.
Cuypers is the main man at the point of attack with 13 MLS 2026 goals in 11 appearances and he could be a big threat to the Sounders' defence, which has shipped 11 goals in five home fixtures (all-competitions).
Chicago have the momentum and goals to make this a close away game and the odds reflect that with Seattle just edging out the Fire at 2.5, although the draw looks too large at 3.8.
