- Ipswich have won three of the last four meetings including a 1-0 win at home seven months ago.
- Hull City are winless in their last five games across all competitions (D2, L3).
- Ipswich have scored seven goals in four away games in the Premier League 2026/2027, but have lost three of those matches.
Tight game anticipated at The MKM
With Hull City and Ipswich Town 11th and 10th respectively in the Premier League 2026/2027 table with nine and ten points on the board, this mid-table clash may appear to be a bit of a mismatch in the betting. However, the odds suggest these teams are fairly matched with The Tigers available at 2.55 to beat the Tractor Boys, who are the same price.
It could be close either way, but the draw is available at 3.5, which is quite a bit shorter than I expect it to be for this type of game and I believe Ipswich are a slight value to avoid defeat on Saturday. Ipswich have won three of the last four head-to-head encounters and, although Hull are unbeaten at home in the Premier League 2026/2027, they have failed to win either of their last two at The MKM against the Suffolk club.
Ipswich can turn this into a midfield battle
Gary O'Neil's side have played with a greater intensity and energy so far in this campaign, particularly in pressing and winning second balls, and they should be able to turn this clash into a close, high-tempo tactical battle. Ipswich beat Fulham 2-1 at home before losing 3-2 at the Etihad in a game where they showed some bite, but struggled to control and were eventually undone by Manchester City's sheer quality.
They followed those two games with a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest, so the results have been mixed, but Ipswich have certainly been more enterprising going forward on their travels. They have scored seven times in four road games in the Premier League 2026/2027, but have lost three of those four games, while Hull City have also struggled to convert draws into wins this season.
Hull are not closing out games
Hull followed up their 2-2 home draw with Everton with a 1-0 defeat to Fulham on the road, so they have some bite, but they are not finishing the job. Sergej Jakirovic sets them up in a compact back five or narrow 4-3-3/5-4-1 shape designed to stay solid and hit fast on the counter. This feels like a similar match, with the home side looking to keep it tight and the Tractor Boys more enterprising in terms of attacking. That could see them get ahead and, even if they are pegged back, they should have the quality to nick the victory and the head-to-head edge gives them the edge here. Over 2.5 goals at 1.8 is the standout alternative, but Ipswich have lost three of their four away games and both teams play a transition-based style, so we could see a narrow, one-goal win for the visitors. Mohamed Belloumi leads the Premier League 2026/2027 scoring for Hull with two goals from five appearances, but Emersonn is the Tractor Boys' most lethal finisher with two goals in five matches and he looks the most likely scorer for the Suffolk side this weekend.
