Sevilla could win, but it won’t be easy
Sevilla FC have had a very mixed 2026-2027 campaign so far, but they come into Friday's LaLiga 2026/2027 clash with Alaves looking to have settled on a style of play.
Luis Garcia has overseen a return to the high-intensity pressing style that worked so well since taking over on 24 March 2026. His players will try to suffocate opponents with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 press and release their ball-playing players in fast vertical breaks.
The players at Garcia's disposal are good enough to make that plan work at times, but they lack the sort of superstar quality that makes such tactics work at their most effective. Isaac Romero has scored three goals in the last five games, Miguel Angel Sierra is the main finisher in the league with two in seven LaLiga 2026/2027 appearances and Youssouf Fofana has three assists in the same five-game span that has really got Sevilla moving in transition.
Alaves will set up to frustrate at Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan
Therefore, we could see plenty of possession and territory for Los Nervionenses in this clash, but Alaves are a side that will have other ideas. Quique Sanchez Flores has made the Babazorros tough to beat since he took over on 3rd March 2026 by building his team around structure, discipline and counter-attacks.
Alaves will sit in a compact 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 block, cede possession and look to pounce on counters and set-pieces. In Lucas Boye, they have a real danger man who leads their LaLiga scoring with four goals in six.
Sevilla are the likelier winner here, but the odds for that result look short at 2.08 with Alaves 3.5 and the draw 3.3. It will be a tight, cagey game with very little of the vertical, aggressive football that Garcia wants his team to play. Under 2.5 goals looks a good fit at 1.65 and both teams to score is priced tightly at 1.93.
Sevilla have three wins and two defeats from five home games in LaLiga 2026/2027 while Alaves are still seeking their first away win after four games, so a 1-0 home win looks a decent option in the correct score market. Alaves have only conceded five in four away games this term, so we won't expect them to be easily overrun by Sevilla, who have conceded seven times in five home matches.
With Garcia's men on a roll, Alaves will be a test of the new-look Los Nervionenses, but should be breached by one goal at some point in the game.
