Two teams in the LaLiga 2026/2027 standings meet at Abanca-Riazor on Sunday in what is likely to be a close and tense contest. Deportivo A Coruna sit 9th on one point from one game while Valencia are 12th with one point from their single LaLiga outing. Both teams have looked pretty average so far this season, but the odds make this a near even contest with Deportivo 33/20 and the Chés also 33/20, the draw is 43/20. Under 2.5 goals looks a solid punt at 31/50 in this spot, and BTTS doesn't look like a banker, so we will pass on that.
Valencia’s trigger press should suit Deportivo’s build-up
Antonio Hidalgo has been at the helm of Deportivo since July 2025 and in that time has fashioned a possession-first side with a double pivot and a compact mid-to-low block. They are not a team who will press all over the pitch, rather they look to control the rhythm of the game and try to get on top with short passing, although they do have the pace of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has scored one goal in one appearance, to break into the space when they are outnumbered in possession.
Carlos Corberán has been in charge of the Chés since December 2024 and his men have a more aggressive press than Deportivo, but one that is more trigger based, and they are usually quicker in transition when they do win the ball, so this could suit the visitors more as Deportivo would have to play through their press or get trapped in their own half.
Amatucci’s final ball will be key
