Valencia CF will be looking to stop the rot when they take on Real Betis at Estadio Mestalla in Spain on Tuesday. Los Che are on a 2-game losing run and their form coming into this has been mixed, with a 1-1 draw at Stoke, a 1-2 home defeat to Newcastle and a 0-1 loss at home to CD Teruel in their most recent three games.
Carlos Corberan has done a good job since taking over as manager on 25 December 2024, instilling an aggressive, turn-over football style with some good verticality, and his men will give it a real go at Betis again. However, Mestalla has not been a fortress of late with Valencia losing their last three home games in all competitions (0 wins, 0 draws, 3 losses), and that makes us lean towards the visiting side for this clash.
Back the away side to nick it
Real Betis will have an added edge because Manuel Pellegrini has been at the helm for a long time - 1 August 2020 to be exact - and this team is his own creation. The Verdiblancos are patient, possess the ball and have structure, and their 4-2-3-1 shape is likely to challenge Valencia's all-or-nothing press, although Corberan's transitions are equally adept at punishing the odd loose pass.
Betis' recent form is better than Valencia's with three wins, one draw and one defeat from their last five. The two 2-2 draws with Bournemouth and 0-1 defeat away to Inter come at the top of the pile, but Betis are in their stride now and should get at Valencia. Pablo Fornals has scored two of their five goals in the last five games, so the late arrival from midfield could be a threat on Tuesday.
