- Juárez and Tijuana are tied on 15 points in midtable, heading into the middle of the Liga MX Clausura 2026.
- Tijuana have been a ‘feast or famine’ side, with two wins and three losses in their last five matches.
Border clash should bring out best in both
FC Juarez and Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente will be going for the jugular when they meet in the Liga MX this Saturday in a six-point fixture that will have a significant impact on the Liguilla qualification race in the Clausura 2026.
With both sides on 15 points after 12 and 13 games respectively, in mid-table positions, the pressure is on managers Pedro Caixinha and Sebastián Abreu to get the best out of their clubs in this border-club rivalry.
Juarez are a well-organised and tactically sound 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 team that likes to build up patiently, transition quickly and press in bursts depending on the opposition’s phase of play. Abreu’s tactical flexibility has enabled Xolos to show two very different faces this year, from a solid defensive display to a 3-0 loss to Necaxa.
Xolos look to exploit transitions
The visit to Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez should be a tough test for Tijuana, who will have a full squad available after Juárez are set to miss injured Madson and Bryan Romero. Tijuana’s results have been patchy, but they have been excellent in the attacks of Kevin Castañeda, who has 5 - 6 goals this season.
He scored in the 1-0 win over Tigres and grabbed a brace in the 3-0 thrashing of León, but his team has been shown up in heavy defeats to Necaxa (3-0), Santos (2-1) and Atlas (2-1).
Xolos play a more pragmatic 5-3-2 or compact 4-3-3 system in which they are tough to break down and seek to stifle opponents by blocking up their width. Abreu has his attacking players to play with in Diego Abreu and Mourad Daoudi while centre-back Unai Bilbao is a threat from set-piece play.
Juve’s home edge could see them through
Juve have struggled to score goals this year, but have done well at home when it really mattered. Óscar Estupiñán leads their scoring charts with four goals in the current Liga MX campaign, but Guilherme Castilho and José Luis Rodríguez are the club’s most creative forces, with Rodríguez the top assist provider.
There is a lot to like about FC Juárez at 9/10 for the win compared to Tijuana at 13/5 and the draw at 11/4 and we’re taking the home side because of Caixinha’s superior organisation and the fact they have shown they can win important games.
But the ‘both teams to score - Yes’ market is a strong 57/100 favourite here and that looks a better play because neither team is quite solid enough at the back to keep the other quiet for a whole game.
Juárez should win this game at home on a day when the mild spring weather and a bit of rain on the pitch could favour the team that adapts best to the conditions. This game is all about whether Juarez can get Tijuana out of their compact block, but Xolos will be a big threat on the counter attack if they can get players into the channels and the wide areas to break Juarez down.
