Escaldes edge Mornar in first-leg
Atletic Club d'Escaldes took a one-goal advantage to Montenegro to face FK Mornar Bar in the return leg of their UEFA Conference League qualification tie on Thursday.
The Andorra outfit are the slight favourites coming into this fixture having won the first leg 2-1 in front of their home supporters, and they also backed up that result with another clean sheet in midweek as they took Penya Encarnada d'Andorra apart 2-0.
That 2-0 victory was a reaction to their 3-1 defeat at Inter Club d'Escaldes and they've now won their last 2 and taken 3 victories from their last 5 outings across all competitions.
Mornar will be pleased enough to have just one goal to make up, however, given their recent results. The Montenegrins claimed a 0-2 win at FK Jezero Plav before their trip to Andorra and were unbeaten prior to that 2-1 defeat after a 0-1 cup win at FK Decic Tuzi.
Darko Zoric has 1 goal in 1 appearance in this UEFA Conference League qualifier and will be Mornar's most potent threat up top, while Borja Morales has made the difference for Escaldes with a pair of goals over the past week.
Montenegrins to make life tough
Morales' 2 goals in this competition mean he's in fine form for Escaldes, who have won 4 of their last 10, drawn 2 and lost 4.
Mornar are in decent form, however, with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat from their last 5 and we think Vesco Stesevic's compact 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot and controlled transitions in and out of possession will make life difficult for the visitors on Thursday.
Escaldes are a different proposition to the sides Mornar have faced so far, however, and Marti Riverola sets up from a 4-3-3 base and likes to use a compact block and counter-attack as best they can.
This is a clash between control and counter-attack, and we feel Mornar will have to break Escaldes down and that the visitors will look to counter-attack at every opportunity.
This is likely to be a tense, one-goal match which is reflected in the odds, and with Mornar unbeaten at home (W2, D2) in all competitions, we're going under 2.5 goals and both teams to score 'No' at 3/5 and 43/50 respectively.
