- The oddsmakers make FK Qarabag the big favourites here at 3/25, and the draw at 13/2.
- The hosts are in excellent form, winning four and drawing one of their last five, including three straight wins.
Qarabag have the class advantage
The oddsmakers and the form book both suggest that anything other than a home win in this UEFA Europa League Qualification 2026 clash would be a major surprise. The pedigree, form and odds all point in the same direction here, and that direction is FK Qarabag.
Qurban Qurbanov has been the long-term boss of Qarabag, an extremely rare occurrence in European football, where coaches are frequently chopped and changed. He has overseen the development of a distinct style and identity for the club, and they are in good nick at the moment, with four wins and a draw from their last five.
The visitors Vestri are in a decent spell themselves, having won five, drawn two and lost three of their last ten across all competitions, but they've not really faced anything close to this level of opposition and so this should be a step up.
A question of identity
This game will come down to a question of control versus transition. Qarabag play a 4-2-3-1 system with a double pivot, attacking full-backs and quick combinations. Vestri employ a compact 4-4-2 system, which is designed to clog passing lanes, win second balls and break fast on the counter attack.
Qarabag should have the edge
Qarabag are two from two at home this term, without conceding a loss. They've also won three of their four home matches across all competitions, scoring 3.00 goals per-game and conceding just 0.50. Vestri are solid away from home, conceding just 1.33 per-game on their travels, but have drawn their last two.
A Qarabag win to nil looks a sharp alternative here, as the hosts should be able to keep Vestri at bay. The last three games of Qarabag are the ones to focus on, as they've been a 3-0 home victory over Mil-Mugan Imisli FK, a 4-3 away victory at FK Sumgayit and a 4-0 away success against WSG Tirol.
The only players who should really threaten the home goal are Breki Hermannsson, who has scored two of Vestri's six goals in the last five games. He can be a spark, but the rest of Vestri's side is pretty solid and it'll be tough for them to compete with Qarabag on Thursday.
