Tough to break down opponents
This Saturday's Championship 2026-2027 clash at Cappielow Park is going to be a tough encounter for both Greenock Morton and Arbroath as they have both been relatively poor so far this season. The Ton have won three of the last five head-to-heads between the two sides (3W, 0L, 2D) but Arbroath have not won any of the last five meetings, with two draws and three defeats.
Ian Murray has only been in charge of Greenock Morton since 5 January 2026 but he has had enough time to mould this squad into a route one, cross-heavy, 4-2-3-1 side that is quite direct in build up and transition. The Ton play a high line which could be exposed if they are caught out by Arbroath's high press and quick vertical combinations.
Colin Hamilton has been at the helm of Arbroath since 12 September 2024 and has overseen a side that are very compact, intense and aggressive without the ball. The Red Lichties should be able to turn this into a real midfield battle as they can pressure the hosts and make life tough for them in their own half.

In contrast, Arbroath's results have been slightly better with a 1-0 victory away to Stirling Albion before a defeat and a draw at home to Ayr United (2-0) and away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle (0-0). The hosts have had Arbroath's number in their two most recent meetings but this season the sides will be in a different spot, with Morton currently 10th (W0, D0, L2) and Arbroath 8th (W0, D1, L1).
