- Oldham Athletic have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their 4 EFL League Two 2026-2027 home matches, conceding 6 goals at Boundary Park.
- Port Vale have won 2 and lost 4 of their 6 EFL League Two 2026-2027 away matches, scoring 6 goals on the road.
- Oldham Athletic have won 2 of their last 10 matches in all competitions, drawing 1 and losing 7. Port Vale have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 5 of their last 10 in all competitions.
Dour Valiants won't be an easy watch
Port Vale are the more likely winners on the numbers, but the odds are close enough to make this a difficult choice - Port Vale 17/10, Oldham 77/50 and the draw 9/4. Both teams to score is priced similarly, with 'Yes' at 3/4 and 'No' at 93/100, so we'll swerve that market and go with 'Under 2.5 goals' at 3/4 for what could be a nervy, close-fought league match.
Micky Mellon has done a great job at Oldham Athletic since taking charge in October 2023 and his pro-active 4-3-3 has been well-versed in both high pressing and fast transitions. Oldham were beaten 2-0 away at Stoke earlier today in the EFL Cup 2026/2027 and have lost their last two in all competitions - a 1-3 defeat at home to Bolton and the above-mentioned loss to Stoke.
Jon Brady has been in charge of Port Vale since January 2026 and his pragmatic setup is all about keeping a compact shape, being a threat from set pieces and exploiting opponents on the counter attack. Port Vale edged Stockport County 2-1 away in League One 2025/2026, but have lost their following two - 0-2 at home to Lincoln City and 3-0 away to Wolves earlier today in the EFL Cup 2026/2027.
Tight, cagey encounter expected
Oldham are likely to try and pin Vale back as much as possible, but the visitors' flexible back-three, or narrow, compact block, should be able to get through the initial press if they stay organised. Vale have scored six times in six away games, but Oldham have conceded just six times in four at Boundary Park, so we're not expecting many goals in this one.
Port Vale have away form, but Oldham are a decent side and both teams are in poor form, so we feel the odds are about right and we're going for the draw - a result that is more likely if both sides play as well as they're capable of.
