- Marsaxlokk have won their last three consecutive matches in all competitions, including a 1-0 home win over Valletta FC and a 3-2 home victory over Naxxar Lions FC.
- Pyunik Yerevan have won two, drawn two, and lost one of their last five matches in all competitions.
Two very different teams could make for an interesting first leg
Pyunik Yerevan are the 2.05 market favourites to win Thursday's UEFA Conference League Qualification 2026 first-leg at Cementarnica Stadium, North Macedonia, but the odds for the draw are a similar 3.4 while Marsaxlokk are a shade of odds at 3.4.
Winston Muscat's side have been in place since 14 June 2023, so he has had plenty of time to instill his tactical identity upon the club, which appears to be a structured, narrow, and quick team that likes to sit deep and hit teams on the break.
They are typically a low-scoring team that can be effective on the counter and from set pieces.
Pyunik will try to press Marsaxlokk into submission
Artak Oseyan's Pyunik Yerevan have been together since 11 August 2025, so they are still in their infancy as a side, but they have certainly established a system and style of play. The Armenians like to press high up the pitch, work the half-spaces and rotate their personnel in a controlled manner.
So, it's clear that a matchup between these two sides is going to be a chess match of sorts. Pyunik will want to get on top of the ball and maintain pressure on Marsaxlokk's goal, but they could easily find themselves stuck in their own half as Muscat's men keep things tight and compact.
The Maltese side's home record of 4-2-1 in all competitions suggests that Pyunik will find it difficult to create enough chances to win this one and Marsaxlokk's average of 1.71 goals per-home-match across all competitions indicates they can be a threat on the attack too.
Stick with the visitors to edge the tie
Given Pyunik's recent record of 5-2-3 and Marsaxlokk's 5-3-2 across the last ten in all competitions, it's probably fair to say that the Armenians are a slightly better side and should edge this tie.
However, their away record of 2-1-2 in all competitions, which includes an average of 0.40 goals scored and 0.40 goals conceded, suggests this will be a cagey match and that the draw is very much in play.
We'll stick with the slightly better team and the favourite in this one, but it will be tight and it wouldn't be a surprise if it slid towards a draw.
