- Toluca are unbeaten in five games, winning their last two with 5-1 and 4-2 scorelines
- Mazatlán have just one win in their last five matches, losing 3-1 to Pumas and 2-0 to América in their last two
- Toluca have won seven of their last 12 head-to-head fixtures.
Toluca have firepower to beat Mazatlan
Mazatlan FC coach Sergio Bueno has a tough task to get his side to stay out of the relegation spots before the end of their final season in Liga MX. He took over the team in January 2026 and has not yet been able to settle the squad due to the looming franchise sale and off-field turmoil.
The hosts have just one win from their last five games and have conceded too many goals, as their recent defeats to Pumas (3-1) and América (2-0) have shown.
Facundo Almada and Édgar Bárcenas offer a few attacking outlets and have created some good chances for Jaziel Ovalle, Mazatlan’s leading scorer with 3-4 goals.
Toluca are having a good Clausura season, standing in fifth place in the table with 27 points, which is enough to be in the top group of teams chasing an automatic spot in the Liguilla.
Antonio Mohamed has created a pragmatic, organised team that keeps up a high tempo and presses aggressively when out of possession, while still having the ability to play with patience and possession when needed.
Helinho and Jorge Gallardo provide a creative spark, supplying Paulinho, the team’s leading marksman, with plenty of chances to get his regular goals.
The visitors are missing the creativity of Marcel Ruiz, who is sidelined with a long-term ACL injury, but have coped well with his absence, as their 5-1 thumping of Necaxa and 4-2 win over Pumas shows.
Mazatlan have their backs to the wall
These two teams have very different playing styles and this will be a classic attacking versus defensive match-up.
Mazatlán like to sit deep and use their athleticism to clog the central areas, hoping to win the ball back and counter-attack or get bodies into the box from set pieces.
Toluca, on the other hand, like to play with pace and have plenty of players who can run at the defence in their 4-2-3-1 formation. Mohamed is not afraid to put his wide players or even his inverted central forward through the middle to create imbalanced situations and confusion.
The hosts could be dangerous on the counter-attack with their desperation at stake and home advantage, but Toluca should have the quality and firepower to come through, even if the warm, humid conditions at Estadio El Encanto are to their detriment.
There is more significance to this game for both teams than most others in the final few rounds of the Clausura as Toluca are chasing a top-four finish and Mazatlán are fighting to stay out of last place in their final Liga MX season.
The bookies have Toluca as 1.46 favorites, which seems very short, especially when Mazatlan are 5.93 to win. We will take the visitors at those odds because they have the better form, position in the table and stats from this fixture over the past few years.
However, Over 2.5 goals at 1.48 and BTTS at 1.64 are both excellent bets on this game. Toluca have scored roughly twice as many goals as Mazatlan in their recent head-to-head history and have won by multiple-goal margins in many of their Liga MX clashes.
