- Cardiff have collected three points from four Championship games, the same as their opponents Stoke, who occupy 22nd spot to the Bluebirds' 19th after both sides started the season poorly.
- The Bluebirds have drawn their two home Championship games, Stoke have lost both their away matches, making the hosts the likeliest winners here.
- Cian Ashford has scored twice in four Championship appearances for the hosts and four of Cardiff's last ten goals have been scored by the Irishman, who gives them a real chance of a result if they can play him early in transition and from set pieces.
Bluebirds have the best chance of a narrow victory
Cardiff City FC are the slight favourites for this Tuesday's Championship clash with Stoke at 57/50, but the 207/100 for the visitors and 51/20 for the draw offer plenty of value, depending on how you view these two clubs.
The Potters' recent form reads as one win and four defeats in their last five games, which is not encouraging, but the games tell a slightly better story of a team that is ready to fight.
Stoke drew 1-1 at home to Hull before losing on penalties in the EFL Cup, then lost 4-1 away to Wolves and won 1-0 at home over Norwich. But, if this game is going to go to the visitors, Stoke need a man on a hot streak up front and right now that man is Ethan Galbraith.
Potters can press Cardiff into mistakes
Ethan Galbraith has two goals in four Championship matches for Stoke this season and looks like the best bet to score for the Potters in this game if Mark Robins' side can turn their share of pressure into a quick attack.
Robins has had the job since 2 January 2025 and has given Stoke a more direct, front-foot edge. Brian Barry-Murphy has been at the helm at Cardiff City since 16 June 2025 and has been gradually trying to get the Bluebirds to play a more modern, possession-first identity.
These two different styles should make for an interesting tactical matchup at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday with the pace of the game probably dictated by which team can control it early on. If Barry-Murphy's side keep the ball clean and make a few good passes, they should be able to pin Stoke back.
But if Robins' men win it high and make a few quick, early passes they will catch Cardiff out in their own half and get the better of the tackles. Either way, it should be a scrappy Championship affair that looks more likely to go the way of the home side right now with Stoke looking more vulnerable on the road than the Welsh club are at their own stadium.
Draw and Cardiff both have value
Cardiff have drawn their first two home games in the Championship and, although they lost at QPR in their next away trip, that result was overshadowed by the 1-2 defeat to Norwich in the EFL Cup and the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The 0-1-2 run in their most recent three games is difficult to read as good form or bad form, but we will take the more positive view because they were only one goal away from maximum points in each game. Stoke's away record of 0-2 from their last two trips should also act as a warning for any traveller who dares to back them on Cardiff's home turf.
We believe the safest angle of attack here is a Cardiff win or draw and the bet that best suits the mood of the two clubs, as neither side has looked completely convincing in their respective approaches. Barry-Murphy's men are more solid at home than Stoke are away, which is why we are going with the narrow 1-0 home win in the correct score market.
