Barry-Murphy’s Blues are building well
Brian Barry-Murphy has been in charge of Cardiff City FC since 16 June 2025 and he has slowly built a controlled, possession-first unit. The Bluebirds typically set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation that is built around controlled possession, a No.10 to orchestrate vertical combinations and an organised high press to get the ball back.
Cardiff City have been in good form, winning three, drawing one and losing one of their last five games, and they look to have the edge here with home advantage against a Norwich City side that have been up and down of late. In their latest outings, they have beaten AS Roma 4-1 at home, Swindon Town 3-2 at home and drawn 1-1 with Wrexham in the previous round.
The Bluebirds have won four, drawn one and lost one of their six home matches in all current competitions this season and have conceded 11 goals in the process. So, there is some frailty to their setup and they could easily get overrun by a Norwich side capable of exploding into the game.
Clement’s Canaries are a little all over the place
Philippe Clement has overseen Norwich City since his appointment on 18 November 2025 and he has made them play a high tempo, vertical style that has suited the Canaries nicely. They line up in a flexible 4-2/4-3 hybrid, using a back four, two pivot players and two advanced, wide/inside forwards.
Clement's men look to attack through the channels, start fast and hit on the counter-attack at pace. This is exactly what they did in their EFL Cup Round One, blitzing their League One opponents in a high-tempo display of sharp combinations and clinical counters.
Their recent results have been all over the map, however, as they won 4-1 at home to Milton Keynes Dons and suffered a 1-2 home defeat to West Bromwich. All in all, Norwich have won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five, making them the inferior side in this EFL Cup tie.
Cardiff can make the difference on the night
There is no huge gap between these sides, so we should expect a tight contest on Tuesday. The recent H2H record does favour the Canaries, who won 4-2 at Carrow Road in Championship 2024/2025, so the Canaries can break this fixture open.
Our selection in the match result markets is for the hosts to nick it on the night, as Cardiff City are in the better form and possess the home advantage. Under 2.5 goals at 17/20 looks a much cleaner alternative if this turns into a Cup scrap, which is entirely possible given the relative quality of the two sides.
Cardiff can boast a good goal threat in Yousef Salech, who has scored three of their eight goals in the last five matches.
