- San Diego FC have won four of their last five MLS matches, while Galaxy have won one, drawn three and lost one of their last five.
- SDFC have won five of their 11 home MLS 2026 games, with three defeats and three draws.
- Los Angeles Galaxy have won three, drawn four and lost four of their 11 MLS 2026 away fixtures.
SoCal showdown should be a good watch
San Diego FC have been in much better form than Los Angeles Galaxy lately, which should make the visitors the underdogs for Sunday's SoCal derby at the Snapdragon Stadium, USA. SDFC have 27 points from 21 games, one more than Galaxy have managed over the same stretch, but the current standings have them 17th in MLS 2026. Their form is better than their position suggests, however, with SDFC winning four of their last five games and LA taking just one win from their corresponding sequence. San Diego bounce into this weekend's matchup on the back of a 3-0 win at home to Colorado Rapids and are unbeaten in three at this venue after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Portland Timbers on the road last time out. Los Angeles come into the game after a 1-0 home win over San Jose Earthquakes was followed by a 2-2 draw at CF Montréal, so they are probably not in great shape either. The odds don't reflect this, however, making SDFC the outright favourite at 21/25 ahead of Galaxy's 5/2 and the draw at 31/10, which seems to be a bit out of whack.
SDFC’s home record and head-to-head edge can see them through
San Diego FC should win this one based on recent form and their head-to-head record against Galaxy. They beat their visitors 2-1 at this ground in MLS 2025 and have won the last two meetings between the clubs. SDFC have also made their home a tough place to go, posting a record of five wins, three draws and three defeats from 11 games played, while conceding only 15 goals.
Galaxy have been poor on the road, winning only three of their 11 away fixtures, but they are a stubborn opponent that can get tough when needed. Their recent pair of matches - a win and a draw - show that Galaxy can grind out a result when necessary, so we think the BTTS market looks the sharpest here.
A bet on both teams to score at 19/50 would have saved us from taking the draw into consideration, but we'll take the visitors' poor away record and SDFC's good home record to tip the scales towards the home team here.
Mixed bag in goal markets
Marcus Ingvartsen has been the main striker for San Diego this season with 11 goals in 21 games, but LA have a more prolific goalscorer in Gabriel Pec, who has bagged five times in 14 appearances. Joseph Paintsil has added two in the last five for Galaxy, so there's a mix of styles coming into this contest.
Mikey Varas's San Diego FC play a possession-based 4-3-3 system with some patient build-up and a high press when they hunt the ball, while Greg Vanney's Galaxy are more compact and rely on transition moments to take advantage of the space they create with a creative pivot.
That should make for an interesting tactical battle and, with both teams on a mission to make their mark on the MLS 2026, we're expecting an open affair, although our selection of over 2.5 goals at 2/5 is also covered in the BTTS selection.
