Solans is the playmaker for home side
RSL are the favourite here at 1.81, but Minnesota United at 3.85 and the draw at 3.9 seem much more attractive. The hosts' form is mixed, but Minnesota are in a shocker patch of form and RSL have a little bit more of the playmaker that can make this happen on Sunday.
Real Salt Lake are coming off a 1-1 draw away to Club Tigres de la UANL and a 4-0 home win over CF Atlante, so their last two results show a bit of toughness and a bit of bite. The 4-2-3-1 can switch into a 3-2-4-1 in possession to create central overloads and they have plenty of interior progression. Sergi Solans is their dangerman and the leading scorer in MLS 2026 with seven to his name, but he has hit four goals in the last five games, so RSL have a good bit of attacking bite.
Pablo Mastroeni has been in charge of RSL since August 2021 and they look like a team with a structure that can control games and have some swagger on home turf.
Loons are loose
Minnesota are a little looser in their structure, playing a back-three/wingback system with two very advanced creators, who can hurt on transition. The team isn't in good shape at all (W1, D4, L5 in last 10 games across all competitions). Their last two outings have been particularly poor, losing 2-0 at home to lowly FC Juarez before coming back with a 0-0 draw with Mexico's second-best team, Club Tigres de la UANL, only to lose on penalties.
Look for goals
RSL are a team that plays well when they have the ball, but will also press selectively after a loss. They should pin Minnesota back, but the Loons do have a compact shape. The visitors' away record in all competitions stands at one win and three defeats from four games (Conceded 1.75 goals per-game on average). So, this should be a chess match with the hosts wanting to control and the visitors wanting to nick it.
We're going to go with a Real Salt Lake win and both teams to score here, which fits the odds and the tactical nature of this game. Minnesota's transition threat means this isn't a banker, but RSL can win the first half and the full game.
