- Portsmouth are unbeaten at home in all competitions (W2, D1) ahead of QPR's visit.
- QPR have conceded just four goals in their four competitive away games to date across all competitions.
- Wins are the most frequent outcome in Portsmouth's last 10 matches (W4, D3, L3).
Pompey can make a cagey game of it
Portsmouth are fancied marginally for Saturday's meeting with Queens Park Rangers at Fratton Park, but the draw at 49/20 and Under 2.5 goals at 93/100 offer greater odds-on value than the home side at 59/50 and the away team at 21/10.
The head-to-head record between these two clubs is fairly level with Pompey winning two of the last four meetings, QPR taking one and one draw. Pompey will hope to avoid a repeat of the 6-1 loss they suffered in this fixture in the Championship 2025/2026 campaign, but their recent form isn't all that impressive.
John Mousinho has been in charge of the club since 20 January 2023 and his early successes in keeping Pompey up have given way to a more organised survival-first approach. The club's recent run of one win in five, two defeats and two draws, doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but it's not a disastrous run either.
QPR have the quality to pull this off
Queens Park Rangers arrive in better form with four wins from their last five and a slip-up. The Rs' 5-1-4 run in their last ten matches across all competitions isn't the most consistent of runs, but the ceiling is higher for Julien Stéphan's men, who are much more expansive.
Stéphan, appointed on 25 June 2025, has given the Rs a much more front-foot edge, quick transitions and a proactive press. They play with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system that gets bodies forward, but the main difference between these sides is the tempo that they play at.
Portsmouth's style, in contrast, is to play through their back four and two-pivot system in a more controlled fashion that keeps the game 'congested' and the shape intact. Pompey have scored just 1.33 goals per 90 minutes at home in all competitions while QPR have kept things tight on their travels, conceding just four times in four away matches.
The last two times QPR have faced Pompey, both of which were at Fratton Park, Pompey have stopped them from winning, but that's not to say that QPR won't have a go. Their 7-0 win away at Bromley and 3-2 scalp of AFC Wimbledon at Loftus Road were interspersed with a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Millwall, so the results have been a bit up and down.
Go for a cagey draw
This fixture looks like a bit of a chess match to us as Pompey will want to slow the game down and QPR will want to ramp it up and nick it in transition. With Portsmouth's strong home record, backing the favorite could be a play here, but we're going for a draw.
Under 2.5 goals is also live and 1-0 or 1-1 would suit this match up best, so we're taking Both Teams to Score - Yes for smaller stakes.
