- Portsmouth form: Portsmouth have lost two of their last five (W1, D2) and are in poor form.
- QPR form: Queens Park Rangers have won four of their last five, losing once (L1).
- QPR defense: QPR have conceded just four goals in four competitive away trips this season.
QPR more likely to nick it at Fratton Park
Odds and context
Portsmouth are the narrow 2.18 home favorites for Saturday's Championship 2026-2027 clash with Queens Park Rangers at Fratton Park while QPR are 3.1 with the draw coming in at 3.45.
That's perhaps understandable considering Pompey are unbeaten at home in all competitions this season (W2, D1) and have prevented the London club from winning on their last two visits to Fratton Park, although the visitors have more form and should be the choice in this one.
Portsmouth manager and style
John Mousinho has been in charge of Portsmouth since 20th January 2023 and has instilled a solid structure on his team and clear identity. The Pompey way is about keeping the tempo slow, keeping their shape and playing through a back four and two deep central midfielders.
QPR manager and style
Julien Stéphan took charge of QPR on 25th June 2025 and is slowly turning them into a team with a front-foot mentality where the ball is moved quickly to get into the opponent's half and allow his side to press with numbers. QPR are more expansive and will be much more willing to play out a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation with more bodies forward and the chance to create turnovers high up.
Close game on the cards
Pompey's last 10 in all competitions has seen them win four, draw three and lose three, so it's a solid but not explosive run of form. QPR have a little more upside in their game, but less consistency overall as the Hoops have won five, drawn one and lost four during the same period.
All of that points to a chess match where Portsmouth will want to slow it down and QPR will want to speed it up and try to nick it in the transitions. Under 2.5 goals at 1.93 and Both Teams To Score – Yes at 1.7 is where the value is to be found, although BTTS – Yes at 1.7 is live because QPR will no doubt be looking to get at Pompey and cause them problems.
The hosts have averaged 1.33 goals per game in all competitions this term with four of those coming at home, so a 1-0 or 1-1 result looks the most likely outcome here and that's why we are siding with the home side in a scrappy game.
- The head-to-head is quite even with Portsmouth having won two of the last four meetings, QPR one and one draw.
- However, the Londoners' most recent win was a 6-1 home thrashing in the Championship 2025/2026 and they will no doubt want to avoid that fate.
- QPR's last three saw them record a 7-0 away win over Bromley and a 3-2 home win over AFC Wimbledon before a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Millwall, while Pompey's 3-1 EFL Cup loss to West Ham came after draws with Farnborough and Darmstadt.
