Rivals converge at BC Place
Vancouver Whitecaps and Los Angeles FC look like two of the best teams in MLS 2026, so their clash at BC Place on Saturday feels like a top-end showdown between two clubs sitting 3rd and 5th on 33 and 30 points respectively (from 16 and 17 games).
The hosts have lost just one of eight home MLS games in 2026, winning seven, and they score at a healthy rate of 2.62 goals per match in British Columbia. Jesper Soerensen has them playing a possession game since January 2025, where they overload the midfield, counter-press and dominate territory with their build-up and control-first football.
Brian White has been the sharp edge of their attack in MLS 2026, hitting the net ten times in 15 appearances. LAFC have Denis Bouanga to play in the same role, the Gabonese forward having notched eight times in 16 games, but three of their last nine goals have come via Bouanga, so back him to be a major threat in this game.
LAFC are in good nick
LAFC have won their last three and are 3-0-2 in their last five, so they'll be feeling good as they come north. They've not fared well away to Vancouver in recent times, but their 2026 away record of three wins, two draws and three defeats looks a bit worse than that of their hosts.
Marc Dos Santos has been in charge since December 2025 and has brought a flexible, ball-friendly setup. But LAFC rely on more mobile attackers to run at the defence and create space. The clash of styles will be interesting and the midfield battle will set the pace of the game, with Vancouver's counter-press able to smother LAFC's build-up if they win the second balls.
Vancouver to sneak it
Vancouver's recent form has been a mixed bag, so I am inclined to lean towards Vancouver given the odds, but LAFC's hot streak of three straight wins makes this a knife-edge contest. Vancouver have won this fixture three times in the last five across all comps (LAFC have one and one draw), so history sides with the hosts.
The bookmakers have made Vancouver the favourites at 39/50, but LAFC are 33/10 and the draw 16/5 here. So I am with the bookies on this occasion and taking the odds-on favourite, although there is a lot to like about Vancouver's chances of nicking it at home.
BTTS at 11/20 looks good too for a goal-laden match and Over 2.5 at 53/100 looks a solid play given both sides score freely. Vancouver thrashed LAFC 6-5 at home in the MLS Playoffs 2025 in a classic that was still being talked about weeks later. Let's hope Saturday's game has that kind of script for another end-to-end classic.
