The Bernardo Silva transfer is done. Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday that the 31-year-old Portugal midfielder has signed a two-year contract until June 2028. He joins as a free agent after leaving Manchester City.
Real Madrid announced the agreement in a short statement. "Real Madrid CF and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028," it read.
Silva is rated at 22 million euros on transfermarkt.com, but Real paid nothing to get the Portuguese player. Silva's Manchester City contract expired at the end of the season, so he will join Real Madrid at the end of June.
The Portugal international is 31. He had joined City nine years ago, in May 2017, from Monaco. A deal that set City back around 50 million euros back then.
Silva made 459 appearances for City, scoring 76 goals, and won six Premier League titles plus the 2023 Champions League during his time under Pep Guardiola.
Silva arrives as Madrid rebuilds under a new manager. Newly re-elected president Florentino Perez appointed Jose Mourinho earlier in June, after the club went two seasons without a major trophy. Last season they finished eight points behind Barcelona in La Liga and exited the Champions League in the quarter-finals.
The signing follows Marc Cucurella's arrival from Chelsea, announced earlier this week for a reported 55 million euros. Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is also set to join Real Madrid for free at the end of his Anfield contract.
Silva will meet a familiar face in Madrid's attack. He and Mbappé won the Ligue 1 title at Monaco before either reached the Bernabeu.
Silva is at the World Cup with Portugal. He featured for the squad in their Group K opener against DR Congo in Houston, which finished 1-1. His Madrid spell begins once the international tournament concludes and his City registration lapses.
