- Freiburg have won four of their last five games, making it three victories in a row.
- Freiburg have won four, drawn one and lost one of their six home games in all competitions this season.
- Motherwell have lost two in a row, drawing twice and winning once in their last five.
Freiburg have one foot in the next round
After their 3-1 win in the first leg of this UEFA Conference League Qualification 2026, SC Freiburg hold the upper hand in their tie with Motherwell and will be confident of finishing the job at Europa-Park Stadion.
The Breisgau-Brasilianer have hit top gear in the last few weeks, winning four of their last five matches to make it three straight victories, while they have won four, drawn one and lost just one of their half dozen home games this season, conceding six goals in the process.
Matthias Ginter has been Freiburg's biggest threat in the competition with two goals in one game and his forward runs from the back line are a massive threat to all opponents, but with Lucas Hoeler, they may have the sharpest shooter on the pitch on Thursday.
Hoeler has three goals in Freiburg's last five and Julian Schuster's men have seven goals in total during that run.
Visitors face an uphill battle
Motherwell's hope of a remarkable comeback in Germany are not helped by a run of two straight defeats, which follows two draws and a win from five fixtures.
The Steelmen use an aggressive, rotation-heavy 4-2-2-2 built on quick combinations and counter-pressing.
However, they are much more of a pressing side, much more rotation-heavy and much more high-energy, while they have a 4-2-2-2 that can be highly effective against the right opponents.
Ibrahim Said is their most effective player in this competition, netting two goals in four appearances, but Freiburg are just the wrong opponent for Alfred Johansson's side and should have the wherewithal to manage the pressure his men can exert.
Motherwell have won twice, drawn once and lost twice on the road in all competitions, conceding seven goals at a rate of 1.40 per 90 minutes.
Hosts can close out the tie
The odds, which have Freiburg at 1.17 and a draw at 6.7, suggest the bookmakers think Freiburg will finish the job, but it is not a foregone conclusion.
A home win is the most likely outcome, however, and Under 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score - No both look excellent choices at 2.47 and 1.55, respectively.
