Rapid have the right rhythm to roll Paide
SK Rapid Wien are rolling along nicely and should have no trouble dispatching the visitors in the 2nd leg of their UEFA Conference League Qualification tie with Paide Linnameeskond at Allianz Stadion on Wednesday.
The Austrian Bundesliga outfit come into the fixture on a five-game winning streak, with their last three results all coming in the Conference League qualifiers. Rapid romped 6-2 over FC Santa Coloma at home, before edging a 1-0 victory over SC Rheindorf Altach. They then took a 4-1 advantage into the return leg with Estonian side Paide after a superb away victory last week.
Paide have been more than competitive across all fronts this season and have an equally impressive recent record of five wins, three draws and two defeats from their last 10, but they look a tier below the hosts and this could be beyond them.
Paide will try to cling on and counter
Henri Anier has been Paide's liveliest attacking outlet, scoring three of his side's six goals in their last five games. The attacking midfielder is their liveliest attacking outlet for countering on the break, while Abdourahman Badamosi's two Conference League goals in five games is a boost as they will need to have a plan B on Wednesday.
Johannes Hoff Thorup has Rapid playing an aggressive, possession-heavy 4-3-3 system that is built on quick circulation, high pressing and suffocating opponents. Ercan Kara is a clinical forward who is a real threat to any side as he can play on the shoulder of the last defender and has a true poacher's instinct.
Rapid average 2.86 goals scored and 1.14 conceded per game at home in all competitions this season, which reflects the control they exert and the sharpness of their clinical edge. Paide are much more solid away, but their average of 1.40 scored and 1.80 conceded across all venues in all competitions suggests they can nick a goal - but also that they are liable to be exposed at the back.
Over 2.5 goals looks like the play
Rapid are the overwhelming favourites at 1.19, with the draw at 6.66 also too short for us. Paide are rightly the outsiders, but we think the spread could be a little wider given the first-leg result.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.42 is our main play as it fits the attacking angle of the hosts and the fact that they should be able to open Paide up a little more than they did last week.
Both teams to score - No at 1.7 also appeals because Thorup's men will be looking to shut the game down as soon as they get a couple of goals.
