- Odds: Scotland are 1.51 favorites to win this game with Haiti the underdogs at 6.8.
- Away form: Scotland have conceded just three goals in their last four away games, averaging just 0.75 goals per game on the road.
Contrasting styles for an intriguing affair
A tale of two sides meeting at the crossroads for very different reasons will take place in Port au Prince on Sunday, as Haiti prepare for their return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974, while Scotland look to continue their rare deep run at a World Cup under Steve Clarke.
Haiti's approach
Haiti boss Sébastien Migné has done a tremendous job since taking the helm in March 2024, instilling a pragmatic, transition-based style on his side.
- They typically set up in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system and look to compress into a narrow block, allowing their pacey diaspora attackers to run at the opposition in transition.
- The hosts will be particularly dangerous on the counter and in direct, vertical play.
- Scotland have a very different style and identity, preferring a patient, disciplined build-up with plenty of width and aerial play.
Scotland's style
The Tartan Army look to stretch the opposition out and get their forwards involved, which allows them to dominate second balls and get numbers behind the ball when necessary.
Clarke has made them a tough watch on the whole, but there's a real second-phase aggression to the midfield duo of McTominay and McGinn, who regularly make late runs into the box.
Scotland to edge a cagey encounter
This matchup features a very interesting contrast in style and, as such, it will be a fascinating game between two teams with very clear identities. In truth, the Scots are likely to have the edge in this matchup, but with Haiti at home, it won't be easy.
Scotland have failed to win in their most recent away match (W2, D1, L1), while Haiti have conceded just three in their last six at home.
With Haiti showing plenty of defensive resilience at their home games, Under 2.5 goals at 1.9 looks great value for what could be a cagey affair, while I'm backing the Scots to come out on top.
