- Home form: Uzbekistan have a formidable home record with four wins and no losses in their last four home matches (W4, D0, L0 all comps).
- Away form: Colombia are unbeaten in their last four away matches (W2, D2, all comps).
- Overall form: Uzbekistan and Colombia have identical overall forms in the last ten games (W6, D2, L2).
Cagey clash expected in Tashkent
Uzbekistan and Colombia will be hoping to make a statement when they meet in Tashkent on Thursday. Fabio Cannavaro has done a solid job as Uzbekistan's head coach since taking over in October 2025, installing a pragmatic system and a clear defensive structure around their players.
The home team are well-organised in a back-three system and are capable of defending deeply before releasing their wing-backs onto the break. Oston Urunov has been their main attacking threat, with the forward scoring two of their last three goals in recent matches, but Colombia will no doubt be the more expansive side.
Colombia will want to dance
Tactical approach
Nestor Lorenzo has overseen a similar period of progress since taking charge of Colombia in June 2022, although his approach has been more about creative attacking play and the ability to manage games when necessary. The 4-2-3-1 formation is structured around creative players in the No.10 role and Colombia will look to unlock Uzbekistan with some verticality and width.
Home form
Uzbekistan have been formidable at home, winning six of their last seven home matches across all competitions and conceding just ten goals across those seven games. That's an average of 1.43 goals per game, although their average in all venues in the same period is also 1.43, so we shouldn't expect any special home advantage in the goal tally.
Colombia to edge it in Tashkent
Colombia are a very solid 1.44 to get the win here, while Uzbekistan's price of 8.5 is about right and the draw 4.6 also appeals to me. I would have happily taken the hosts to pull off a minor upset in this matchup, but both teams have identical forms across all competitions of W6, D2, L2, so it's tough to favour either.
Uzbekistan's World Cup debut under Cannavaro adds a narrative to this matchup that could have an impact on the result, but with Colombia's superior squad quality and away record, I'm siding with the favourites to edge out a close, cagey clash.
- Colombia have been in good form with three wins and two defeats in their last five, winning 3-1 at home to Costa Rica and losing to France.
- They are unbeaten in four away from home, winning two and drawing two, and have scored 11 goals in just four matches away from home in all-competitions.
- Under 2.5 goals is very slightly favoured, and I'm taking the under here as the two defenses are well-matched and Uzbekistan will look to frustrate Colombia before hitting on the counter attack.
