It’s all to play for
League context
The National League 2026/2027 looks to have a long way to go as AFC Fylde sit third with 14 points from their first seven matches and Altrincham lie 15th with nine from the same amount of games. It's a big game for both sides on Saturday, which should make it a keenly-contested affair and we wouldn't dare back against the upset, although we think Altrincham should have the edge.
Coaches and recent form
Craig Mahon has done an excellent job since taking over as AFC Fylde coach on 1 July 2025, with his side playing the more progressive, front-foot football that this league should see. Altrincham have been involved in two games in the last five days that have gone in opposite directions – a 2-1 home win over Eastleigh and a 5-1 away defeat at Woking.
Altrincham can still make their mark
Altrincham's form has been mixed with three wins and two defeats in their last five, but AFC Fylde have put in two performances in the latter three that have demonstrated some bite – a 3-1 away win at Solihull Moors and a 4-1 success at Yeovil Town.
Neil Gibson has tightened Altrincham up into a more compact unit since taking over as coach on 25 November 2025, so there is the potential for this to be a long night for the home side.
But the hosts should be able to dictate tempo and the game should be open with Fylde's possession-based style with a high press. Fylde are the clear favorite at 1.66, with Altrincham and the draw at 4.26 and 3.82 respectively, but there is still enough upside in the over to take us there.
- The other result was a 2-1 home win over Eastleigh and Tom Crawford has been their primary threat in this season's National League, with three goals in five.
- Fylde have failed to win either of their last two home games against Altrincham, so we know the visitors have the blueprint to put a dent in their gameplan.
- Over 2.5 goals at 1.48 looks a more likely outcome than any of the match result options.
