- Team form: Zenit are unbeaten in their last ten matches (W8, D2) and are yet to taste defeat in the current campaign. They have conceded only one goal away (W2 from 2). Akron Tolyatti have won three of their last five fixtures, beating Rotor Volgograd (3-1 H) and PFK Kryliya Sovetov Samara (2-1 H) at home. Akron have failed to win their last home clash against Zenit.
Akron’s new look could make this a live game
Form and recent results
After a 3-0 defeat away to FK Lokomotiv Moscow, Akron Tolyatti's form record for the 2026-2027 season reads (W4, L6). Srdjan Blagojević's side have been much more lively of late, however, winning each of their two most recent matches at home, so their formbook still paints a confused picture.
Tactical setup
Blagojević, who took over the team in June 2026, has set up his side with a 4-2-3-1 formation which is designed to play fast on the counter and attack in numbers.
- In the past, Akron would sit deep and try to play on the break, but they have added a pressing element to their game to win the ball further up the pitch and they look to move the ball forward at a higher tempo.
- Zenit's game plan is more about controlling the rhythm of the game and creating overloads wide where they can cross the ball into the box, but there have been signs during preseason and in the opening games of the campaign that they can be just as quick as anyone.
Match outlook
This should make for an intriguing match at the Kristall Stadium on Saturday, as the battle for midfield control will play a significant role in deciding the flow of the match.
Zenit’s structure should dominate the game
Zenit are the clear favorites at 1.36 with the oddsmakers, while the hosts come in at a big 8.8 and the draw is at a hefty 5.35. That's probably about right because the visitors have been in excellent shape so far in 2026/27 and Sergey Semak's side have looked a well-oiled machine since he took over as head coach in 2018.
Zenit are 3-1-1 up in the head-to-head record over the last five meetings, but that is skewed by the result of the last game at this venue seven months ago. Zenit won that one 2-0, but the away side has dominated this fixture with three wins and a draw from the four meetings.
Zenit have won eight and drawn two of their last 10 matches, and in this game they have beaten FK Red Star Belgrade (3-1 H), tied with FC Dynamo Makhachkala (1-1 H) and FC Spartak Moscow (1-1 A), before going on to win the Super Cup on penalties against the latter. The visitors have won both of their away fixtures in all competitions so far and have conceded only once.
The key to this game is whether or not Zenit can keep Akron's wide runners in check and shut off the space behind their double pivot or whether the hosts can hit on the transition early in the matchup. If the blue-and-white control the tempo as they usually do, then it should be a straightforward road win for them, but if Akron can get their game going, then it will be a closer and more intriguing game than the odds suggest.
Under 2.5 goals at 2.4 looks a viable option here if the away team smothers the tempo and Akron can't find a way to get clean looks at goal.
