Alkmaar are unbeaten in their last seven home games in all competitions, winning four and drawing three, so they have clearly turned the AFAS Stadion into a stronghold since Leeroy Echteld took the job on 19 January 2026.
The difference he has made to the fluidity of the control-based Alkmaar play has been profound, with the pressing up and tight play at the back, making them difficult to break down. On the road, ADO have kept things relatively tight, conceding an average of just 1.00 goals in all competitions and letting in five in total. They should be able to stay in the game for long periods of time, but AZ have also been creating and scoring enough goals to break opponents down.
Over 2.5 goals looks like the best play
- AZ have some momentum following a 4-0 win over Racing Genk and a 3-2 win over Olympiakos Piraeus FC and they should have enough to beat an ADO side who have been equally impressive of late.

A clash of styles could open this up
Robin Peter has been ADO's boss since 14 July 2025, so he has had time to get his players to play a compact mid-block and an aggressive high press to try and force turnovers in order to hit with speed in transition.
AZ tend to play a fluid 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system, with the full-backs coming up and the midfielders rotating to stretch the opposition. A clash of control versus chaos could be a factor here and if AZ can get through the press, they should have plenty of space to exploit in behind.

This won't be a walk in the park for AZ but they should have the quality to win at home, so I will take both teams to score as a strong secondary bet at 1.6. Mexx Meerdink has scored two of AZ's five goals in their last five competitive matches and could be a livewire in the final third.
