- Home form: AZ Alkmaar are unbeaten in their last three home games (W2, D1).

- Away record: FC Twente have won six, drawn seven and lost just two of their 15 Eredivisie away games (W6, D7, L2).
Echteld’s Alkmaar take on Twente
Coach and recent form
Leeroy Echteld took over as AZ Alkmaar’s head coach in January 2026 and has worked hard to stabilise his side and integrate some of his young players into the squad.
Sunday’s hosts have had a mixed run of late, winning two, drawing two and losing one of their last five in all competitions, but they will take confidence into this weekend’s clash with FC Twente after beating them 2-1 at home in the KNVB Cup just two months ago.
Tactics and goalscorers
Alkmaar’s approach under Echteld has been to dominate the ball and press selectively while also using their width and positional interchange to unlock the opposition.
Troy Parrott is the club’s top scorer in the Eredivisie this term with 15 goals in 25 appearances, but with Sven Mijnans chipping in with three in their last five, they have some firepower from midfield.
Tight and disciplined Twente could exploit turnovers
FC Twente have had to improve tactically and be more disciplined this season under the guidance of John van den Brom, who has been in charge since September 2025.
FC Twente have scored 27 times in 15 away Eredivisie games, which may not be a big number, but they have enough quality to take advantage of the chances created by their shape. FC Twente set up in a compact, but disciplined shape and are disciplined when they win the ball, looking to transition quickly and play direct.
Kristian Hlynsson is FC Twente’s main man up front, having scored 9 Eredivisie goals in 30 matches, and he is never shy of a chance, even when the odds are stacked against him.
Spoils could be shared in a balanced matchup
Both teams have legitimate claims for the win here, with Alkmaar coming in at 2.66 for the home win. Both will come at each other, so it should be an entertaining game.
Alkmaar have fewer points than Twente this season with 49 points from 31 games to put them 6th in the table, while Twente have 54 points and sit 5th. Both teams to score at 1.36 looks very high considering how much value there is in the over 2.5 goals line at 1.37, so the goals markets are definitely worth a look. Alkmaar average 2.27 goals scored and 1.40 conceded at home in the Eredivisie and Twente are more than capable of scoring away from home, so this one should be open at both ends.
With Twente having failed to win on their last three visits to Alkmaar, we’re going to take the hosts to just edge it here, but it should be close.
