Exciting fixture awaits with Canada vs Bosnia
Canada are the favorites for Friday's FIFA World Cup, Group B 2026 opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the Bosnians are a formidable unit and have been solid on the road lately, so it should be a good matchup in Orlando. Jesse Marsch's men are not great value for the 1.84 win at the moment though, with Bosnia at 4.48 and the draw at 3.8 both looking more enticing.
In Canada, I'm going to chance the draw no bet option for the hosts at 4/6 as they have an extra bit of energy and pressing game to edge this one out, especially with home advantage. The Canucks have four wins, four draws and two defeats, but Bosnia have been more consistent in their recent results with five wins, three draws and only two defeats.
Marsch’s masterminds can make a match of this
Canada's approach
Marsch has brought a high-pressing, aggressive and energetic style to Canada since taking over as head coach in May 2024. Canada's preferred 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 structure ensures that they keep a tight and compact shape in midfield while allowing for high pressing with lots of players forward. They transition quickly from defence to attack and look to get the ball wide and exploit space on the flanks.
- Striker Jonathan David has been their most lethal player recently with two goals in their last five, but Alphonso Davies' pace and width can be a game breaker if he plays.
Bosnia's setup
Sergej Barbarez has brought a different style to Bosnia and Herzegovina since taking over in April 2024. They are more disciplined, organised and structured as a team with a simple but effective game plan to play physical, direct and counter attack.
Goals unlikely as both teams are solid at the back
The visitors' 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 formation sees them keep things tight and block up, winning physical duels and then transitioning quickly with balls over the top for star man Edin Džeko to hold up and play off. Haris Tabakovic has been the standout for Bosnia and Herzegovina, scoring 3 of their last 6 goals, so he could be a threat.
Bosnia have been a hard team to beat away, with three wins, two draws and one defeat in their last six away matches, while Canada have been a little patchy at home, winning just one of their last seven in all competitions (D4, L2). Canada have scored and conceded 1.43 goals per game in their home matches across all competitions, so under 2.5 goals looks a solid play at 1.7 for a tense and low-scoring game.
