- Clermont form: Guion's Clermont have won two and tied two of their last five matches.
- Reims form: UsaĂŻ's Reims have won two and tied three of their last five.
- Home defence: Clermont have conceded six goals in six home matches in all competitions (1.00 per game).
A solid matchup at Stade Gabriel Montpied
Clermont and Stade de Reims could well produce a very decent game at Stade Gabriel Montpied on Saturday, with both clubs in good shape and each bringing different strengths to the table. David Guion's hosts have won their last two matches, beating Montpellier HSC 2-1 on the road before a 1-0 home victory over EA Guingamp.
The Yellow and Blues are similarly in good form. The visitors have been in particularly good form since the restart, going two wins and three draws in their last five outings since a 5-3 thrashing of Pau FC put them back on track.
Stade de Reims are the narrow favorites at 1.9 ahead of Clermont at 4.0 and the tie at 3.45, but both teams to score is a similar bet at 1.77 and should be the preferred choice for this Ligue 2 2026-2027 encounter.
Guion’s Clermont to get a foothold in the matchup
Clermont's approach
Clermont are the home team, having won two, tied two and lost two of their six matches at home in all current competitions, and Guion's side will have a great deal of control for long spells during the game.
The ex-Reims boss, who took the helm on 1st July 2026, has instilled a patient build-up structure, wide overloads and selective pressing in his side that should give his side a foothold in this fixture.
Reims' approach
UsaĂŻ has had to get to know his new group in a shorter time period and has done a brilliant job since coming in on 21st May 2026, with his team looking drilled and difficult to beat.
The Red and Whites favour a more compact structure, aggressive pressing and fast vertical play, so they could get some good opportunities to counter-attack if Clermont give the ball away.
Nakamura is the best player on the pitch
Clermont have won two of the last three games in this rivalry when played here, but Reims are in better form overall, so this will be a chess match between the two coaches.
Guion's possession-based approach against UsaĂŻ's turnover hunting pressure will be an intriguing matchup and could swing the contest one way or the other, but whichever way it does, the midfield will have a lot to do with it.
- A 1-0 Reims win over Clermont in Ligue 2 2025/2026 means that UsaĂŻ's side have the edge already in this matchup and they will be looking to continue that trend on Saturday.
- Under 2.5 goals at 1.83 looks a good matchup given that neither side are prolific, but we're expecting a cagey affair.
- Keito Nakamura has been Reims' livewire in the final third, scoring five of their 12 goals in the last five matches and he looks a great bet to score at any time on Saturday.
