- Cottbus form: FC Energie Cottbus have won seven of their last ten matches (all competitions)
- Hannover form: Hannover 96 are unbeaten in their last ten matches (4 wins, 6 draws).
Two contrasting clubs do battle
Managers' styles
This is a clash between two very different teams and, perhaps, two contrasting managers with FC Energie Cottbus boss Claus-Dieter Wollitz who likes his sides to play high-energy, direct football. Wollitz, in charge since July 2021, is an attack-first coach that loves transitions and overloading wide areas. His opposite number, Christian Titz, is a more patient coach and his Hannover 96 side like to circulate the ball and overrun opponents with their positional superiority.
Recent indicators
There are some similarities, however, as Hannover's recent 3-0 home win over FC Zwolle and their opening 2. Bundesliga 2025/2026 matches of 1-1 away at VfL Bochum and 3-3 at home to FC Nurnberg are indicative of a team that can overpower opponents.
Hannover have the edge
That, and the fact that Hannover are the much superior side on the field, is why I am taking the visitors to edge this one 2-1 at 2.15 with FC Energie Cottbus priced at 3.0 and the draw coming in at 3.65.
A 2-1 away win over Dynamo Dresden in the Friendly Club Matches 2026 was followed up by a 4-2 home defeat against Werder Bremen, so their form could be considered erratic. Mustapha Bundu has been the driving force behind their success in recent weeks with the live wire hitting three goals in Hannover's last five while Waniss Taibi has been pulling the strings in the build-up with three assists in the last five.
- Wollitz's side arrive in worse form than their visitors in recent times with three wins and two defeats in their last five, but it has been a slightly unsteady start to the new campaign.
- Hannover 96, by contrast, are in superb form with four wins and six draws from their last ten in all competitions, which is a very steady return.
Cottbus can keep it close
Cottbus have scored 3.00 goals and conceded 2.00 at home in all competitions, so this should be chaotic at both ends, but Hannover have scored 2.00 and conceded just 1.00 on the road, so they are better at keeping it balanced. It is also worth noting that Hannover are the team with the unbeaten record and the much better away form, which is why I feel they can nick this one.
The best angle to take alongside Hannover's edge is the Both Teams To Score bet at 1.48 with Over 2.5 at 1.57 because the nature of each team's game and the price should be better than even. The head-to-head also gives some hope to the hosts as the last meeting saw a 1-0 win at this venue in the DFB Pokal 2025/2026, so this is anything but a free hit for Hannover.
